The Fleet
Ian Craig Haulage won’t accept anything but the best when it comes to its fleet. Its reputation for delivering on customer promises rests on its ability to deliver every load on time – and that requires the best quality trucks, trailers and ancillary equipment on the market.
The company operates a 70-strong fleet of trucks, supported by more than 120 trailers of different configurations, giving it the flexibility to move any consignment for the brick & block and timber sectors, as well as to handle a wide variety of return loads. A rolling investment programme backed up by the highest standards of maintenance ensures the fleet is kept in tip-top condition.
The bulk of the brick & block work is handled with 6x2 tractor units operating with a mix of tri-axle Montracon trailers with Atlas cranes. These are supported by several crane-equipped 6x2 rigids with tri-axle drawbar trailers.
Timber haulage is handled with a fleet of crane-mounted artics, all with central tyre inflation systems to maximise traction and minimise rutting when operating off-road on timber haul routes. This is supported by 55 flat trailers for the longer distance deliveries.
The bulk of the truck fleet is supplied by Scania and MAN, building on long-term supplier relationships, whilst trailers are primarily sourced from Dennison and Montracon. Atlas is the supplier of choice for brick & block cranes, and HIAB for all timber handling.
100 per cent of the fleet meets the latest Euro-6 emissions standards, and all vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art WebFleet telematics and tracking, plus Brigade forward-facing, side view and rear-view cameras, each with recording capability.
Full in-house vehicle workshop
Ian Craig Haulage is committed to running its own comprehensive vehicle workshop, available exclusively to support the servicing and maintenance of its own assets.
The on-site workshop operates with a day shift and back shift, until 1am each morning, ensuring any unscheduled work can be rectified immediately.
It’s a fantastic resource which enables the fleet to operate at maximum efficiency, and ensures the majority of all defects reported by drivers can be rectified overnight, without impacting on fleet availability.
Classic trucks
Whilst the business operates very much with its eyes on the future, it also recognises that as a major player in the industry for 50 years, it has a lot of history to celebrate and help to preserve.
With that in mind the company proudly maintains a fleet of classic trucks in Ian Craig Haulage livery, which it exhibits at shows across the UK. Over the years the events attended include everything from Truckfest Peterborough and Truckfest Scotland, to both the Classic & Vintage Commercial Show and Retro Truck Show in Gaydon, and even the London to Brighton Historic Commercial Vehicle Run.
Some of the standout vehicles in the family collection include a 1975 Atkinson Borderer, 1977 Saviem SM36.280, 1987 Daf 2800 and a whole fleet of classic Scanias, including a much more recent 1999 Scania T-Cab which was fully restored by the business in 2021.
